Observation tower posterBUILDING ON BRILLIANT DESIGN

When we at Davison Highley wanted to develop a gift for our most valued and prospective clients to promote our commercial collection, we decided to eschew the usual desk dwelling ephemera.

Always a company to stand out from the crowd, we wanted to produce a piece that would create a stir amongst the industry whilst also relate to our brand core idea of ‘Delight in the Detail’.

We were keen to work with an agency renowned for distinctive talent, wit and creativity so I contacted The Partners, having long admired their innovative work and briefed them on coming up with the perfect marketing tool for Davison Highley.

The Partners embraced the challenge of producing a gift to stand out in the highly demanding specifier market, comprising architects and designers, as something which was both distinctive and desirable.

After considering a broad range of approaches, The Partners teamed up with the artist Ian Bilbey (Paul Smith, Issy Miyake etc) to promote Davison Highley’s New York Collection in the form of an incredibly detailed, towering 1,500mm x 850mm poster of the Chase Manhattan building in New York.

Perfect replica illustrations of the New York Collection, and more, were produced and ‘hidden’ across the 56 floors of the skyscraper to provide an interactive element. Recipients are presented with a magnifying glass to help them hunt out Davison Highley furniture, and, if they look closely enough, other, more unexpected elements that have been dropped-in may be discovered (see if you can spot the burglars or the cat with a fish trapped under its paw).

It was fantastic to work on this project and especially with a team that is so appreciative of design and its importance. I love the level of detail and the visual gags, it’s great to think that people will be rewarded the more they return to the piece.

The artwork has already excited great interest, with it featuring on the cover of the January MIX magazine and a further full page and editorial in FX.

We have many, many clients lined up for a presentation of this magnificent piece of artwork, so please be patient. Tim, Kate and Calum will be bringing yours soon.

Never ready to stand still, we are now working on a web-game version which we hope to launch in the next newsletter.
