| Two brand new designs from Davison Highley become part of our standard collection today.

Andes is a distinctive high sided sofa available in two standard sizes, with an armchair to compliment it.
Designed by Andy Kirk, the sofas create an inviting and comfortable enclosure by combining traditional proportions with a smart and contemporary look.

West Side
By using the best available low-carbon componentry, West Side is a serious attempt to help the environment by good design and management.
All aspects of design and manufacture have been carefully considered and this is our first design to feature as standard, the latest Ecoflex/Origin © Eco-friendly fillings. These fillings use a good proportion of renewable vegetable-oil based raw material, thus reducing the fossil-fuel content.

We have carefully considered the overall dimensions to pack efficiently into our own bespoke transport vehicles.
The West Side design will typically give a furniture-miles value* of just 4.2 miles per armchair and 8.5 miles per 2.5 seater sofa when delivered from our High Wycombe workshops to a Central London destination.

West Side has a high potential for recycling, and with our renowned build-quality our furniture invariably outlasts the upholstery fabrics and a fresh set of covers many years down line is the norm.
This longevity removes the need for the entire manufacturing process being repeated as happens when lesser products are thrown in the skip and replaced.
Even more importantly, we have the opportunity to ensure that we manufacture responsibly, source correctly, and minimize the impact on the environment during manufacture, and these are the areas upon which we concentrate.
Virtually all of the componentry which goes into West Side is from renewable sources, a factor which impressed British Airways, who have already purchased 95 units for their new lounges.

*Fewer Furniture Miles
“Furniture Miles” is a value calculated by taking the distance of a delivery from source to destination (including the return journey) and allocating a proportion of the mileage travelled to each piece based on the number of items per load.
It helps us to understand the true impact of the transportation element on the environment.
Bespoke vehicles, carefully consolidated loads, and a factory convenient to London (for over 90% of our deliveries) gives Davison Highley very low Furniture Miles ratings, typically under 5 miles per full size armchair, and under 9 miles per sofa for London deliveries.
This is over 10 times better for the planet than importing from Central Europe, or in the case of Eastern Europe, up to 20 times better.

Olympics 2008
Some of you with good memories will remember that Toby’s brother John Davison, represented Great Britain at the Sydney Olympics, and that we also designed and manufactured the distinctive commentary sofa for the BBC coverage of that event.

Well, we’re back!
Keep an eye open on the BBC for the 2008 commentary sofa, by Davison Highley of course.
Not as sculptural as the Sydney sofa this time, as the client asked for it to be based on our design for BBC Sport.
As Toby said to me:
“It’s the only way we’ll go to the Olympics more often than John “
