FAQs frequently asked questions
CAN I HAVE IT ANY SIZE?
In a nutshell, YES.
All of the furniture in the Davison Highley collection is offered in a choice of standard sizes. These sizes are arrived at in a considered manner based on such criteria as:-correct ergonomics, visual balance, space–planning considerations, efficient and economical manufacture, etc etc.
It is relatively simple to extend the length of our designs.
Revising the depth and height are also quite possible but this takes us into the realms of bespoke pieces. In these cases, we prefer to offer a specific quotation.
Our glass tables are offered in many standard sizes, which are available from stock. Special size tables can also be built within the constraints of the design and the materials, a process which may take 4 – 6 weeks longer.
WHAT LEATHERS OR FABRICS ARE AVAILABLE and CAN I USE MY OWN FABRIC?
ALMOST ANY!
We normally price our standard designs in two grades of leather.
High Performance Leathers covers a range of 'easy care' leathers.
These are to CRIB 5 fire test and are hard wearing and easily maintained. Our premium leathers originate from Scandinavia and the USA, in addition to our own exclusive Black Nappa leather for ultimate softness.
These leathers are extremely luxurious, natural leathers that exhibit considerable natural character.
The choice of upholstery fabrics is almost endless.
We show as standard a 100% wool from Denmark that particularly suits our sculptural shapes and has demonstrated its ability to perform well.
We will be happy to upholster our furniture in your own specified fabric subject to our agreeing its suitability.
Patterned fabrics can be used and work most successfully on flat areas of upholstery such as in our Classic or Expo ranges. Where a patterned fabric has been selected for a curved chair such as Crocus, the interesting effect that occurs around the inside back of the chair can be demonstrated when we have sight of the chosen pattern.
When specifying your own fabrics, always check with the manufacturer that they are properly UK fire certificated as this is a legal requirement.
Fabrics that are not certificated will require interlining or back-coating. Interlining is a significant added expense and back-coating can seriously inhibit the characteristics of a material and in some cases, cause problems with allergic reaction.
DOES IT ALWAYS NEED TO BE FIRE RATED?
Yes. All of our furniture easily achieves a minimum fire rating for commercial application. This is generally specified as CRIB 5 and is achieved by correct use of CMHR fillings, Schedule 3 interliner where necessary and appropriate fabric. Some leathers can achieve up to CRIB 7.
